We carry out educational and social services programs that help local women enter and succeed in the workforce and help children flourish academically.
We also operate a soup kitchen and provide emergency food, clothing, and social support to city residents in need.
We are pleased to announce that we are currently hiring a Job Specialist who will work with Oasis adult students and community members to provide career exploration, counseling, and assistance in all areas of preparing to enter the workforce.
The incumbent will work 20 hours a week during the 2023-2024 academic school year.
JOB DUTIES:
Work with Oasis clients in all aspects of the job search, including resume and cover letter writing and review, conducting career assessments, interviewing skills, job and internship search strategies, and utilizing career planning resources.
Assess individual's skills, strengths, and barriers to employment.
Develop individualized employment plans that include appropriate goals and objectives relative to abilities, interests, experience, assessments, financial needs and labor market trends and updates as needed.
Conduct monthly workshops/groups on career counseling topics; collaborate with volunteers, stakeholders, and internal staff for the groups.
Establish and maintain working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for clients.
Research job leads.
Initiate and maintain ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement.
Assist in outreach to promote the Career Counseling program.
Oversee the Thrift Store Internship program, guiding selected interns through 8-week paid internships to develop skills relevant to the workforce.
Maintain records on clients, employment opportunities, job placement and retention.
Develop an alumni network to ensure continuation of needed services and to track program outcomes.
Perform other related work duties directed by the Director of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree preferred.
Commitment to the program needs and an interest in working with teenagers.
Prior experience providing Career Counseling and developing job leads.
Computer proficiency Must be capable of working independently and have strong initiative, excellent communication skills.
Comfortable working in an urban environment Energetic individual with a positive and empathetic attitude Bilingual English/Spanish a strong plus Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal, writing and communication skills Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, internet, and email communications.
All potential new hires will be required to submit to a multi-level background check (Fingerprinting and CARI check).
